City Awards Citations to Essay Contest Participants

Philadelphia City Councilwoman Donna Reed-Miller presented citations to youth from the Tioga neighborhood of Philadelphia who participated in the Blueprint Communities essay contest. The citations were made during a City Council meeting on December 15, 2005. Students cited included: Mitchell Darrin, Taryn Lee, Koran Oliver, Shaquille Singletary and Cashmere Young (local contest winner).

The youth all attend The Cleveland School. Also attending the ceremony were the students' teacher Virginia Brady and Principle Karen Borden Richardson, as well as Tioga United representatives Irene Stewart (president), Darryl Hollinger (youth coordinator) and Gwen Carter (essay coordinator).

Representative Rosita Youngblood sent all the children special acknowledgement from the State of Pennsylvania. As the local contest winner, Cashmere Young received a $100 check from the FHLBank of Pittsburgh, a certificate of honor from Governor Rendell, a poster suitable for display at the school and a T-shirt proclaiming her the winner.
