  Brief Summary
 

The town of Mullens is located in Southern West Virginia in Wyoming County. The town was originally incorporated in 1912. Mullens grew rapidly in the early part of the twentieth century due in large part to the construction of the Virginian Railway (later merged with the Norfolk and Western Railroad). The town had a population of about 5,000 in the 1920s. Flash floods struck a severe blow to the town in 2001 destroying several local businesses. The latest population estimate available (2005) for the town of Mullens reflects a population of 1,653 people. About twenty-two percent (21.7%) of the population is under 18 years of age and 23% is 65 years of age or older. There are 752 households in Mullens and about 460 families.
